Check With Your HOA When Getting An Exterminator

Having some kind of rodent infestation in and around your house is going to be a problem no matter what. It means that you are going to have to call in an exterminator and have them come out and get rid of the pests for you. Dealing with an HOA can make that more difficult because you may run into issues, including who will be covering the exterminator's fees. When that happens, you are going to need to figure out what you will need to do.

HOA

HOA stands for homeowner's association. They are an organization that represents all the homeowners in your particular neighborhood or division. You join the organization and agree to abide by a certain set of rules and regulations. Depending on your HOA, there may be a lot of things that are very specifically covered, including pest control. That means that when it comes time to deal with an exterminator, there are things that you will need to know about your HOA and the covenants that you signed. So, what are some of those things?

Responsibility

One of the things that you need to find out is who is responsible for what when it comes to pest control. Generally, you are going to be responsible for anything that is inside your house. You may also be responsible for anything that is within your property lines. If the pest problems are in a common area and then moving into your property, then the HOA may be responsible for dealing with the exterminator for those areas. Consult your covenants and if you aren't still aren't sure about the lines of responsibility, you will need to talk to a member of the board or other HOA officer to get some further clarification.

Approved Exterminator

You will also need to check to see if the HOA has an exterminator that is approved to work within your area. Some boards are very particular and will require you to work with only the people that they have preapproved, so you will need to check to see if that is the case for you. You may also be able to get a discount when you schedule with that exterminator, depending on what kind of agreement is set up between your HOA and the exterminator.

If you have rodents or other pests around your house, you need to make sure that you can get rid of them. That's where an exterminator comes in, but if you have an HOA, you need to make sure that you are following those rules when you get your exterminator. Contact an HOA pest control service for more information.
