2 Pests That Can Cause Damage To Your Home And How To Stop Them

There are many pests that can get inside a home with some only being annoying while others are very damaging. Below are two types that will damage your home, as well as tips on stopping this from happening.

Termites

Termites are one of the most common insects that can cause a lot of damage. This is because they eat wood and can eat through your home easily.

There are many signs that you can look for to know if you have termites. One is paint peeling on walls. This will also look like you have water damage in this area. If you see this, tap the wall to see if you hear a hollow sound. If you do, then you likely have termites. You may notice loose tiles on your flooring, stuck doors or windows, and more. Termites will also leave behind mounds of tiny black and white pellets.

You should contact a pest control company if you see signs of termites. This is because it will be difficult for you to get them out before they cause you a lot of damage.

Moths

If you have any lights outside your home, you may see moths flying near the lights. If you have them outside, they can easily fly in when you open a door that is near the light.

Once moths are in your home they will easily damage many things. One thing they love is fabrics. If left in your home long enough they will eat through fabrics, creating large holes. This could be blankets, fabric furniture, quilts, and sweaters.

One of the best ways to get rid of moths is using mothballs. You can purchase mothballs in most stores. The moths hate the smell of these balls so it repels them. When you purchase mothballs, put them inside the bottom of drawers if you have any fabric items in them. The mothballs will not damage your clothing, blankets, etc., but they will have a smell to them. This smell will go away after you air these items out when you remove them from the drawers.

You need to be careful when handling mothballs as they can be toxic to you and any pets that you may have. Wear gloves to protect your hands and a mask over your face.

The pest control company can tell you of other insects you need to watch out for that can cause a lot of damage.
