Hearing Scratching Sounds At Night? It May Be Mice

If you hear scratching sounds in your home at night, you may have mice. It is important that you find out if you do as they will multiply very quickly. Below is information that should help you remove the mice so you will no longer hear these sounds.

Find Entry Points

The first thing to do is to find entry points so you know how the mice are getting into your home. This is important because if you get rid of the current mice in your home first, more will just keep coming back.

Mice are able to squeeze through even very small openings. Look for any holes or cracks in your foundation outside as well as in the flooring and walls inside your home. Mice can also squeeze through gaps like those around your windows.

Close up any gaps or holes, and then you can start the process of getting the mice out.

Dead or Alive

There are baits that you can use to catch mice, and one common one is the snap trap. These traps are inexpensive, and they are humane. When a mouse walks onto the trap it will snap, breaking their neck instantly. Bait the trap with something like cheese, peanut butter, cookies, or anything you have that is sweet and fatty. These baits do only kill one mouse at a time so set several where you see mice. Check the baits every few hours so you can remove the dead mice.

If you want to keep the mice alive there, are baits that allow you to do this. This kind of trap is large enough for a couple of mice to easily get into. Once they are in the trap a door will close. Put bait in the trap, such as peanut butter, cheese, etc. You could also make some peanut butter crackers and then break the cracker into small pieces. Take the trap far from your home and other homes to release the mice.

Call a Pest Control Company

If you are still seeing mice, your home may be infested with them. If this is the case, you need a professional to come in to remove all the mice. They will use baits also, but their baits are made better in most cases. The contractor will ask you if you want to kill the mice or keep them alive and then use the appropriate baits.

The pest control company will also put a bait outside, such as a block of poison. This poison will be sweet and taste very good to the mice. Once they eat it, they will soon die before they enter your home.

If you follow these tips your home should soon be free of mice. For more information on mice removal treatments, talk to a pest control company in your area.
